Avista Utilities and its Named Communities Investment Fund (NCIF) have been key partners in our work to prevent homelessness through home ownership. Village Cohousing Works has not only received grant funding for its programs, our buyers also benefit from substantial rebates. NCIF rebates not only ensure a lower purchase price when a family buys a home, these rebates make it possible for us to install the most efficient homes available. Which means monthly energy costs stay low, over the long haul. Spending less on housing expenses, including energy bills, means families have more money left over to save, and more emotional energy to participate in the community in meaningful ways. Our buyers have time to volunteer, engage with their kids' schools, go to support groups or church events, and enjoy the outdoors because they aren't burdened by high rent or energy bills.
